How to give users a limited 'sneak peek' at content

Is there a way to set up forums so that a member of a 'lower rank' group can see the title of a thread and maybe even the first few lines, but the rest is greyed out and followed by a message that to view this content a member must be of a 'higher rank'? Some news websites have something like this for content, eg Bloomberg, so I was thinking the same approach on a forum might 'hint' at the extra content as a incentive for members to upgrade to a tier where they can view all of that content...
